Course Description

The Accredited Level 2 ICT Diploma introduces students to information, communication and technology, whilst investigating its various applications in current society. Through study of the course students will develop analytical and evaluative skills as well as methods relating to independent research. These methods will allow students to gain insight into a wide range of ICT applications and concepts.

The course is designed to be accessible for those with limited ICT backgrounds, and as such is an excellent starting point for students wishing to learn more about information, communication and technology.

The course is a year in length and divided into 2 units of study. At the end of each unit there is an associated TMA (Tutor Marked Assessment) which students are required to complete and submit. The course is formally assessed by an average grade being attained from the 2 submitted Assessments.

Accredited Level 2 ICT Diploma Unit 1: ICT Basics

Module 1: Hardware, software, memory and storage

The first unit starts by looking at the computer and processing in general terms; what are these devices and how can we use them in everyday life. The unit also looks at methods of data storage and backup.

Module 2: Word processing, desk top publishing and spreadsheets

Word processing is perhaps the most common tool of computing – this unit explores word processing and formatting concepts and also explores desk top publishing in terms of enhancing documents and modelling

Module 3: Databases, graphics and presentation software
