Within the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics the two main areas of research are in Public Service Management and International Banking, Finance and Economics. In Public Service Management, activity includes research, consultancy and the delivery of commercial and mainstream public service programmes and modules. Current areas of research include: Best Value and CPA in local government Fraud in the European Union The use of sampling methods in auditing In International Banking, Finance and Economics, research, consultancy and training is provided. The focus is on financial markets and the needs of the financial community in the Northwest. Current areas of research include: Developing decision tools and quantitative trading in financial markets Using neural network models for predicting company insolvencies The application of real options to mergers and acquisitions in the European Financial Services industry Seasonality in stock markets The links between financial development and economic growth Assessing the effectiveness of radon remediation Issues around the Euro The origins, development and current state of macroeconomics There are also several Research Associates who are either quantitative professionals working in financial markets or academics from other universities who work with staff from the School.
