Access to Health Care at Higher by Colin - last modified 2009-07-08 16:11 The Access to Health Care at Higher is primarily aimed at students wishing to progress to nursing studies and contains a range subjects relating to Health & Social Care Practice. Students will be given a work placement in a health or social care area. Progression Usually students will progress to a degree in Adult Nursing, however, this may also give access to direct entry midwifery or paediatric nursing courses. Students may also gain access to other health related courses at HNCHND & Degree level (Dietetics, Occupational Therapy etc). The course lasts for one academic year and involves attendance for 34 weeks. Have a minimum of 4 standard grades, level 1-2, including English or Communication 3 or the SGA in Care (Intermediate). Students with a core skill communication at intermediate 2 may also be considered. Mature students without the basic entry requirements will be given consideration depending on previous experience. All applicants must attend an interview. All applicants will be required to have advanced disclosure Scotland check. All applicants will be required to undergo an Occupational Health Check prior to commencement of course. Course content Psychology for care Sociology for care Values and Principles for Care Prevention of Infection Continuation of Life Safety in a Care Environment Caring for People with Dementia Practical Skills for Carers Care & Feeding of Children Health Promotion Work Experience IT Numeracy Communication Students will also attend a number of short courses as required to work in a care setting: First Aid at Work Moving & handling people Food hygiene
