Course Description

Course information: A2 Level in Psychology Course content: At A level students are required to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding and their ability to analyse in greater depth to a wider range of content than at AS. Syllabus includes: Social Psychology: helping and aggressive behaviour including media and cultural influences. Cognitive Psychology: The visual system, theories of perceptual processing and development. Developmental Psychology: Social behaviours and the development of personality, gender and adolescence. Individual Differences: Psychopathology of Schizophrenia, Depression and Anxiety Disorders Psychological Perspectives: NatureNurture, reductionist and determinism in debates Psychological Approaches: Behaviour analysed from a Biological, Environmental, Psychoanalytical and information processing point of view. Psychological Report: Conduct psychological research into one specific area and present findings. Assessment procedure: A2 Level Three units will be assessed at the end of this course, two by examination and one by coursework. The A level award comprises of the marks gained for each of the three units achieved at AS level and those gained for the three units at A2 level. (AS + A2 = A level) Qualifications achieved: GCE A2 Level Psychology syllabus A, awarded by AQA Progression opportunities: Psychology combined with other subjects could lead to career paths in the following occupations: Caring professions nursing, social work, care assistant, medicine. Business occupations trainee management, marketing. Education nursery teaching, teacher and training posts. Police force law criminal justice system. Central and local government, civil service. A degree and higher degree in psychology would lead to a career as a practising psychologist: Educational Psychologist, Occupational Psychologist, Child Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist. Free study and financial support: Most full-time students do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance.
