Course Description

This course is accredited by OCR Oxford, Cambridge and RSA examination Board). It a 2-year programme made up of the Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS Level) and the Advanced GCE (A2 Level). 1. The Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level) This is the 1st year of the A-Level programme. It consists of the two Advanced Subsidiary awards: the Single Advanced- Subsidiary Award and the Double Subsidiary Advanced Award . The students can choose to study either the single or double award. 1.a) The Single Advanced Subsidiary Award The Single Advanced Subsidiary Award represents one Advanced Subsidiary Certificate in health and social care and consists of 3 Units: Unit1: Promoting Quality Care (Examination) Unit 2: Communication in Care Settings (Portfolio) Unit 3: Promoting Good Health (Portfolio) The successful completion of this award takes you to the Single award Advanced General Certificate in Health and Social Care. 1.b) The Double Advanced Subsidiary Award The Double Advanced Subsidiary GCE (Double Award) represents two Advanced Subsidiary Certificates in health and social care and consists of 6 Units: Unit 1: Promoting Quality Care (Examination) Unit 2: Communication in Care Settings (Portfolio). Unit 3: Promoting Good Health (Portfolio) Unit 4: Health and Safety in Care settings (Examination) Unit 7: Working in early years care and education (Portfolio) Unit 9: Caring for older people (Adult Nursing) - (Assessed by examination) The successful completion of this award takes you to the Double award Advanced General Certificate in Health and Social Care. 2. The Advanced Level (A2-Level) This is the 2nd year of the A-Level programme. It consists of two advanced awards: the Single Advanced Award and the Double Advanced Award. The students can choose to study either the single or double award. If you take the single in the first year of you?re A-Level programme, then you will have to study the Single Advanced Award in the 2nd year. Similarly, if you take the double award in the first year of your A-Level programme, then you will have to study the double Advanced Award in the 2nd year. 2.a) The Single Advanced Award (Single A2 Level) The Single Advanced Award represents one Advanced Certificate in health and social care and consists of 3 Units: Unit 10: Care Practice and Provision (Portfolio) Unit 11: Understanding Human Behaviour (Examination) Unit 12: Anatomy and Physiology in Practice (Examination) On successful completion of this award takes you will receive the Single Advanced General Certificate in Health and Social Care. You can use your certificate to apply to any university of your choice in health related studies or social work. 2.b) The Double Advanced Award (Double-A2 Level) The Single Advanced Award represents two Advanced Certificates in health and social care and consists of 3 Units: Unit 10: Care Practice and Provision (Portfolio) Unit 11: Understanding Human Behaviour (Examination) Unit 12: Anatomy and Physiology in Practice (Examination) Unit 13: Child Development (Portfolio) Unit 14: Mental Health Issues (Portfolio) Unit 16: Research Methods in Health and Social Care (Portfolio) On successful completion of this award takes you will receive the Double Advanced General Certificate in Health and Social Care. This means two A-Levels in Health and Social Care. You can use your certificates to apply to any university of your choice in health related studies or social work. Entry requirements: Applicants for a place on the A-Level Health and Social Care should a GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and Sciences. Those applicants who do not meet these requirements may be allowed on the course provided: They hold a level 1 or 2 certificate in health and Social care or have an experience of working in health care. They take English and Numeracy IN ADDITION TO their A- Level studies.
