Maria and Edward Gardener, both qualified teachers, founded Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School (London, W6) in 1991. They had identified a need for a co-educational, non-selective independent preparatory school in west London. Due to the school's caring, family-centred ethos and the demand for this type of school, RPPS soon became heavily oversubscribed and has been highly influential in the way independent primary school education has changed in London in the last two decades. In 2004, due to a demand for places for pupils at RPPS, the Gardener family, with their company London Preparatory Schools Ltd, founded Kew Green Preparatory School (London, TW9). KGPS is now highly successful, providing education of the highest quality and having established itself reputationally in the local area. In the same way as RPPS, Kew Green sends its pupils to the best independent senior schools in London. LPS Ltd is a family company. Alongside Maria and Edward Gardener, there are two additional Directors. Having joined in 2003, their son, Theo Brehony is now Managing Director. Michael Herington is a Director and Company Secretary and has been working with the Gardener family for the last 20 years. In September 2013, a new independent secondary school will open in West London. It will be called Kew House School. It will be LPS's third school following the establishment of Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School and Kew Green Preparatory School. Parents at these heavily over-subscribed schools have consistently urged the Directors to open a co-educational secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 18 years. KHS will be pioneering and modern whilst retaining the best of the traditional values in evidence at the LPS preparatory schools. LPS has always been committed to providing a rich and broad curriculum in a relatively small, nurturing learning environment where individual talents are identified and developed. A secondary school with small classes and tutor groups and first class specialist facilities for the teaching of Science, the Arts and Humanities can best achieve this aim.In the 21st century most secondary schools remain firmly modeled on the traditional independent schools and state grammar schools. It is time for a change. Kew House School will respect each student as a valuable individual and work in partnership with pupil and parents to promote his/her success, welfare and happiness.
