Overview

Located in new purpose built facilities the Preparatory Department caters for the educational needs of pupils from 4 to 11 years of age. Working with specialist staff our youngest pupils thrive in an atmosphere of appropriate challenges and support. Class sizes are kept deliberately small to allow individual care and attention at the earliest stage of a child's schooling. The curriculum delivery of the Preparatory Department is enhanced by the provision of daily enrichment sessions from specialist teachers for the Creative and Performing Arts (Drama, Preparatory Choir, Art) and Food and Nutrition. Facilities and qualified first aiders ensure the provision of the highest level of care. In the nurturing atmosphere of the Preparatory Department pupils grow in confidence and ability; at the end of Key Stage 2 (age 11) pupils are ready for the exciting challenges of the Senior School. The Senior School caters for pupils aged 11-16 years of age, covering the national curriculum of Key Stages 3 and 4, culminating in G.C.S.E. examinations. Class sizes are at a maximum of 16 pupils. A system of form tutors and house teams ensures the excellent pastoral care which is intrinsic to a pupil's life at the school. At St. Peter's all pupils are encouraged and supported to fulfil their individual potential. Academic expectations and achievements are high. To facilitate individual progress all members of the teaching team provide weekly consultation sessions, allowing parents and pupils direct access to support. Examination results are excellent, but league tables cannot reflect the fact that St. Peter's allows students to undertake their exams when they are ready, either before or after their age-group peers. Academic expectations for individual students are balanced by the provision of a range of opportunities for students to undertake extra-curricular clubs and activities; from the ever popular Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme to additional sports and performance arts.St. Peter's is delighted to be able to work with students as they prepare for ‘A' level examinations and University entrance. The school offers a traditional range of examination subjects, with the Humanities, Sciences and Mathematics being a choice for many. Class sizes as small as 1:3 and individual tutor sessions allow curriculum delivery tailored to the needs of each individual student. Specialist study facilities are provided for the 6th Form.
