Overview

The Society of Saint Pius X is a priestly society, founded in 1970 by His Grace, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre to provide training for the Catholic priesthood in conformity with the Church's Traditional teaching. The Society now consists of4 Bishops, over 500 Priests, as well as Brothers and Nuns worldwide. The Society has six seminaries for the formation of priests, in Ecône, Switzerland; Flavigny, France; Goulburn, Australia; La Reja, Argentina; Winona, USA;and Zaitzkofen in Germany.The Society ministers to souls in over 600 chapels in 55 countries and has churches, chapels and Mass Centres in Europe and throughout the world, including: Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Gabon, Zimbabwe and South Africa.The Society also has a strong presence in South America, The Philippines and Japan. Recently, there has been strong expansion into central and eastern Europe, with particular success in Poland.The District of Great Britain also sponsors a mission to Scandinavia, covering Norway, Denmark and Sweden.In Great Britain, The Society's Priests regularly offer the traditional Latin Mass in some 30 churches, chapels and mass centres. Saint Michael's School provides a Catholic education for junior and senior boys and junior girls. There isa Retreat House atBristol.
