Overview

Northampton Emergency Aid Team was formed in 1976 after severe storms in the county. After discussions with the emergency services it was decided that a trained team of young people would be able to assist the emergency services should they need extra resources at a major incident. So Venture Scout Leaders from Northampton District started recruiting members for the team from Northampton Venture Scout Units. They underwent training during the winter of 1976/7 and the team became licensed and operational from April 1977.The team started with a Transit Equipment vehicle but it soon came apparent that an Ambulance would be more appropriate as the team were starting to carry out more and more First Aid duties at both Scouting and Public Events. The Team's first Ambulance was purchased with a grant from the Queen's Silver Jubilee Fund in 1978.
